An Overview of the Project Timeline
Dorset Build and Maintenance Ltd commenced the Sensory Garden project at Dorset County Hospital on March 3, 2025. This garden, designed by students from Kingston Maurward College, creates a supportive environment for patients. Initially, the courtyard was cluttered with old materials. We began the project by thoroughly clearing out these items.
Taking the Next Steps
After cleaning, the next step involved excavating the area. We laid out and installed the foundations for the timber crib lock retaining wall.
The Construction Process
Next, we began constructing the timber crib lock. At the same time, we installed the land drain behind the wall. We filled in the area as we progressed to ensure stability.
Following this, we focused on leveling the ground. We also adjusted the manholes to the correct height, which was necessary for installing the patio and cobbled area.
Creating the New Patio and Cobble Area
Once the ground was leveled, we began work on the new patio and cobbled area. This phase involved careful planning to ensure a visually appealing landscape that also served functional purposes.
In the following stage, we worked on the hit-and-miss fencing to enclose the patio area. This was done to enhance both privacy and aesthetics.
Establishing a Perimeter Maintenance Path
During this time, we also needed to establish a perimeter maintenance path. Creating this path ensured easier access for ongoing upkeep and care of the garden.
A Charitable Contribution
Our company has made a charitable contribution to the project. We donated a dry riverbed as part of this initiative. This enhancement serves both visual and functional purposes.
Improving Accessibility
We have also improved accessibility to maintenance areas within the garden. This is vital for ongoing maintenance and facilitates ease of access for maintenance staff.
The Final Touches
Once we completed the thorough cleaning, the entire project was finished. The results have been truly rewarding, with a lovely space created for the community.
In conclusion, the Sensory Garden at Dorset County Hospital is a testament to teamwork and community effort. We look forward to seeing how it benefits patients and visitors alike.
