At Dorset Build & Maintenance Ltd, we’ve always believed that a building project is about more than just materials and labour — it’s about the difference it makes in people’s lives.
That’s why we’re so proud to be part of something truly special at Dorset County Hospital.
What was once a small shop space tucked inside the hospital is now undergoing a complete transformation. It has now reopened as a Support Hub called The Hive — a safe, welcoming place for patients, families, and hospital staff to find information, comfort, and connection when they need it most.
More Than Bricks and Mortar
Yes, there’s construction involved — walls to be adapted, surfaces refreshed, and fixtures
installed — but the heart of this project goes far beyond the physical work.
Every decision we’ve made has been guided by three key goals:
Creating a welcoming, comfortable atmosphere that feels more like a living room than a waiting room.
Ensuring full accessibility so that everyone, regardless of mobility, can use the space with ease.
Designing a layout that encourages openness while still offering private corners for quiet conversations.
We know that for many who will step through these doors, it won’t just be another room — it will be a place to breathe, to talk, and to feel supported.
Built Around People, Not Just Plans
From day one, we’ve worked closely with Dorset County Hospital’s team and the people who will be using the hub. Their insight has shaped everything from the flow of the space to the choice of finishes.
When you’re creating somewhere meant to comfort and uplift, the small details matter — whether it’s choosing warm, calming colours or making sure there’s space for a pram, a wheelchair, or a group of friends sitting together.
A Place That Will Make a Difference
When the Support Hub opens its doors, we know it will quickly become more than just a physical location. It will be a lifeline — a place where someone can find answers, share their story, or simply have a cup of tea with a friendly face.
It’s a privilege to contribute to a project that will serve so many and remind us all that great spaces can truly change lives.
📍 Built with care in Dorset by Dorset Build & Maintenance Ltd Because in the end, it’s not just about what we build — it’s about who we build it for.
