Dorset Build was contracted via an insurance company to carry out the restoration of a fire-damaged kitchen in Poole, caused by a grease fire in the cooker hood. What began as an insurance reinstatement quickly evolved into a full-scale ground floor remodel—an opportunity the client embraced to transform their home.

We began by removing all fire- and smoke-damaged elements, including ceiling sections and coving, followed by thorough cleaning, treatment, and redecoration of the affected areas.

The scope extended to include a full new stone tile floor throughout the kitchen, hallway, and downstairs W/C. We also added matching tiled skirting for a cohesive, high-end finish.

With plumbing, electrical and gas services upgraded, we re-plastered the chased walls and installed bespoke plaster of Paris cornicing to restore the room’s original detail.

The new kitchen—elegant and timeless—features pale green Shaker-style units, glass-fronted cabinetry, integrated appliances, and a range cooker. We carefully reworked the original black quartz worktops and upstands to suit the new layout, preserving quality materials and saving on unnecessary waste.

To complement the kitchen, we redecorated the entrance hall and W/C, brightening previously dark spaces with fresh, neutral tones. The once shadowy hallway—previously dominated by dark walls and lacking natural light—is now a welcoming, airy entryway that sets the tone for the rest of the home.

This project is a perfect example of turning an unfortunate incident into a transformative renovation. By working closely with the client throughout the design phase, we ensured every detail served both function and style—and the results speak for themselves.
