Project Spotlight: Porch Renovation – Bournemouth

At Dorset Build & Maintenance, we're experts in bringing damaged spaces back to life, and this recent project in Bournemouth was a perfect example! We were called in on an insurance claim to fully restore a damaged entrance porch, transforming it from a hazard into a welcoming entryway.

Here's how we tackled this detailed restoration:

1. Careful Dismantling & Support: The existing timber structure had completely failed due to rot, and the glazing was beyond repair. Our skilled team carefully supported the roof structure while meticulously dismantling the deteriorated timber below.

   
   

2. Rebuilding with Precision: We then rebuilt the entire porch from the ground up! We replicated the original profiles in softwood with precision cutting, planing, and routing, ensuring we preserved the unique character of the original design.

   
   

3. Durability Upgrades: To significantly improve the porch's longevity, we made a subtle yet crucial upgrade. We mounted the structural posts with robust Simpson Strong-Tie brackets directly onto the brickwork. All new timber components were also installed with damp-proof membranes and thoroughly treated with wood preservative for long-term protection against moisture.

   
   

4. Enhanced Glazing & Steps: The original glazing was replaced with toughened safety glass, sourced from a trusted local supplier, providing added strength and an improved lifespan. Finally, we rebuilt the loose front steps, ensuring the entrance is not only visually restored but also safe and secure for everyday use.
